Okay, long time no update because I've been busy devoting my efforts into my LiveJournal account rather than here. I'm sorry, but yes. The tagboard here is as dead as a doornail.Anyway, just a quick note: the book, It's I'MPOSSIBLE, which I illustrated, will be launched next month. I'm really hoping there will be people going to support us ex-JJ students (author, co-author and the illustrator, yours truly). More details will be supplied before the event. The book's website can be found here: Only a few pieces of my work are posted there: but if you would be as kind as to mosey over and take a look, I'd be happy. (I'd be happier if you bought a copy, hint hint.) You can get a postcard from me FOC as well as pre-order the book by telling me. Or you can just follow the instructions on the website. It's that easy to get your hands on it, and it's dirt cheap when you pre-order. Oh, and they don't come with my autograph, you'll have to chase after me yourself *grins* And yes, I am back from visiting family in Malaysia. Bought plenty of barang-barang at low, low prices. For the full inventory, you can shift to the left, there's a link to my LJ page where you can view the dirties. I traveled light - I donated blood while over in Penang. Not gonna donate in Singapore any more, because they pay you for the blood donated in Penang, Yes, for one bulging bag of blood (that part is always nasty no matter where you go) you get RM60 (roughly S$30) worth of supermarket vouchers. Here, you get a brightly coloured elastic bandage. No brainer which one is more popular. Pros: Nice bed to lie down in, free television, if something goes wrong, the emergency unit is one speedy gurney ride away, vouchers of course, comprehensive blood check for hepatitis and other abnormalities with results in a few hours, professionals doing the blood drawing, free hot Milo. Cons: Stabbed with a needle three times (once to draw a vial for testing, once to put in the local anesthetic which incidentally does not work and the final time to suck out the blood), PAIN (the blood needle is the size of a bloody Vitagen straw - I'm not exaggerating), even though the nurses are pros, they managed to tug on my needle while it was still in me. Yowch, Anyway, both arms (one for testing, the other for drawing the bag) are awfully sore now and the usual restrictions apply. No running even though I feel FAT (and since when is that new?) and no heavy lifting, but that last one went out the window. Darn heavy luggage. Feeling simultaneously accomplished and worn down this week. This afternoon (instead of doing some other more important things like Vectors, hahaha), I did a puzzle instead, a cheap 300 piece one from Daiso. Finished it in less than 1hr 30mins, which is very good :D Apparently jigsaw puzzles are excellent exercise for the mind, especially for developing spatial thinking. Spatial thinking, by the way, is good for maths and music. Anyway, yesterday I donated blood. This time, I went with a lot of my classmates. Nothing really exciting this year, the most painful part is still when they 'staple' your finger to test iron and haemoglobin levels. Now only I learned that the paddle thing they use to rub your arm is actually localised anaesthetic (well no wonder it didn't hurt when the needle went in). The needle is really very big, almost as big as the mini straw that comes with the packets of water. A lot of people got turned away because either their iron levels were too low or their veins were too small. A pity really, but it can't be helped. My classmates went to lounge around the sofa set outside the LN, eating and drinking the free stuff provided. As for this week, it went pretty bad. Somehow my class managed to get scolded by all our teachers. Yesterday's Maths lesson was especially bad. The atmosphere in there was so bad, you could cut it with a knife. I'm also quite fed up with my classmates. It's bad enough that we get scolded every week by the teachers. At least we could have a little class spirit, rather than nothing at all. After all the hassle Angela and I went through to get the class tee, the class won't even bother to wear it. Class tees are a form of solidarity, to show that we are united. Nooo. After we agreed to wear it on Fridays, the class has yet to show up wearing it, giving pathetic excuses like 'it doesn't look good on me' and 'i forgot to wear' and 'i don't like it. It's too ugly'. Hello. I have only two words: Grow up. We don't even have our teachers' respect. Wearing the class tee isn't just about coordinating our clothes: it's about presenting an united body. We don't have our teachers' respect. That's not good. Isn't it worse if we can't even depend on each other? The final straw for me was yesterday's Bio SPA trial. What I saw was an astonishing display of lack of integrity. Okay, not being saintly and all, I admit I was tempted to do the same. But I didn't. And I believe actions speak louder than words. All I can say is these people who did what they did are going to suffer in two weeks' time. I guarantee it. This few weeks have been a time of great turmoil for me. I have distanced myself from almost everything and I don't feel anything. Labels: blood drive, donation, respect, shame |
