Post-birthday review:Be careful what you wish for. Seriously. I thought it was a good thing that JJ set a senior facillitator meeting on my birthday because I was dying to get out of the house and get busy. And of course, the universe heard me and made it worse. Soon, I had a badminton game and a tuition session lined up. Let the games begin. JJ forgot about the senior fac meeting, partially because they were already busy with the OGL camp and partially because so few of us turned up: there were only 5 orange shirts there instead of the projected 30. As though that wasn't bad enough, Priscilla, Brenda and I were kept waiting for the next 3 hours. (The meeting was at 9am and we left at around 1.30pm.) We sloped around for most of the time then ended up at McDonald's. They sneaked out to buy me a birthday cake so I got my birthday cake after all. :) There was still some leftover cake so we went back to school to get rid of the rest of the cake (no place to carry it around on my super-packed day) and to check whether the school still wanted us. Tommy and some other grand seniors were helping out with the wet games, setting up what looked like a massive maze. He obligingly had a piece of cake. Desmy was there too but she pretended not to notice anything. Anyway, it's like no big deal. I just told her we senior facs were going to bugger off due to lack of appreciation. The rest of the cake was disposed of with thanks to the junior OGLs (they were nice enough to sing me a birthday song despite the fact they have no idea who I am). ![]() The cake! ![]() ![]() I get to eat the special impaled strawberry. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have attained enlightenment. ![]() ![]() They pose with their handiwork. ![]() Aftermath. Shuffled off to Jurong Point to have lunch at Long John Silver. The portions are getting smaller and the price is still increasing. No wonder so many people are looking for jobs, otherwise they'd be too poor to eat. We unfortunate people waiting for A Level results are also forced to pay adult fare for public transport which is roughly double of what the concession fare was. Tragic times indeed. Anyway, I had to dash off early to meet my secondary school friend at Serangoon (!) for a game of badminton. Turned out I wasn't the only invitee, there were a few others whom I didn't know. We had a great game, I haven't played badminton in yonks (squash doesn't count). It took me an hour to get back to Bukit Batok from Serangoon and then rush rush off for the tuition session. Xue Xuan, who gave me the contact was off though: the student's English wasn't as good as she said it would be (far, far worse) and we all know how horrible my Mandarin is. So no go. I was fired before I could quit so that was the end of that. Another tuition session today, this time with a student who speaks English. Not a bad session, though I would have wished for an older student with whom I can declaim the finer points of writing award-winning English essays. So, in a twist of irony, the people's birthdays whom I celebrated last year did not celebrate mine. Happy nineteenth to me! So, definitely the most exhausting birthday I have had. Labels: birthday |
