And after the silence, there was light...

I'm finally back after a long hiatus. Bruised, broken but alive. In the end, it's the survivor spirit that counts.

New start, new name. I happened to stumble on this Japanese name generator and gave it a go. Apparently, you type in your name and the engine picks a given name and surname based on your name (I don't know what criteria). So I punched in my name and boom, got a new one: Yumi Michiyo. Yumi means 'archery' and Michiyo means 'three thousand generations', loosely translated. I quite like it, so I think I'll be using it. Of course, this doesn't mean that the Retrovirus is dead and buried.

It's strange to be even blogging after so long a gap. Technically, I haven't even finished all the papers yet. As I write, there is still a Bio multiple choice paper on Thursday the 20th. Other people have already finished, curse Cambridge-SEAB for prolonging our suffering.

Regardless, I still enjoy myself, me and my laptop. After watching a couple of Inuyasha movies on Okto (cursed things ran during the exam period), I got hooked on the anime (although I still have a general disdain for pointless anime). Personally, I always felt that manga is a terrible waste of money. I still do, because one volume costs quite a sum and they seem to go on forever... Take Inuyasha, for example. The manga was started November 1996 and concluded... June 2008 with 558 chapters. *crashes to the floor*

It's almost thankful that I started with the anime, which stands at a less hefty 167 episodes but (sadly!) remains uncompleted. But I'm not complaining. I've always loved Japanese history. Takashi Matsuoka and Laura Joh Rowland are two of my favourite authors of historical fiction. Yes, while historical fiction is the genre of books I am maddest about, I have a fondness for Japanese historical fiction. To find an anime which is actually set in the Sengoku Jidai period of Japanese history and weaved in with occult and spiritual overtones is really great.

My interest in Inuyasha is also important in terms of (relation)shipping. I think not many readers of this blog know it (I have a habit of keeping my life neatly compartmentalized) but I am a hardcore shipper and have been for more than 3 years. I am also an active fanfiction writer for the Harry Potter fandom. If you're still curious to know what it's all about, Wikipedia has an excellent article.

Anyway, I'm quite a fan of Sango/Miroku (those who have no idea what I'm talking about, either go and Google it or read someone else's blog. Thank you for your time.). It was actually confirmed in canon by Rumiko Takahashi-sensei, quite unlike the unhappy fate of Harry/Hermione shippers (like me), who were cruelly denounced by J.K. Rowling as 'delusional'. Sigh. Not wise to blow off fans, in my opinion, particularly when you're counting on them to fund the Harry Potter empire of books, movies and merchandise. *grits teeth*

Sigh. Notwithstanding, shipping is still an enjoyable hobby (maybe even way of life).

Coming back to the real world (with a thump), I'm in a spot of trouble now. My class chalet and squash chalet happen to be at almost the same time so now I've gotta pick which one to go. And now I shall go into a quiet corner to resolve this dilemma.
